Senior Packaging Development Engineer (Contract) -id-4580
Job Summary:
This is a long-term (appx. 12 months) contract position during our MSA transition period from Unilever Manufacturing to Third Party Manufacturing. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Packaging Engineer with extensive expertise in Rigid Packaging for Consumer Package Goods (CPG) products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Packaging Line operations and Packaging Mold Development in extrusion/Injection Processes. This role requires collaboration with external partners and suppliers and will involve travel to various sites across North America (mostly mid-west). The main focus of this role will be to transition Suave Brands from Unilever Manufacturing to Third Party Manufacturing that entail the development of new molds, manufacturing lines and approval to successfully transition all product lines across Haircare, Skincare, Skin Cleansing, Deodorants and Styling categories.

This individual will have a technical competency and be responsible for the creation and upkeep of packaging specifications, coordinating package line trials with external partners, and developing package testing plans to support new mold qualification and approval.

- Primary Responsibility Lead Transition of Suave Brands from Unilever to Suave Brands Company.
- Design and Development: Lead the design and development of Rigid Packaging solutions for CPG products, ensuring functionality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Packaging Line Experience: Oversee and optimize Packaging Line Operations through Line Trials/Testing to ensuring efficiency and quality in the Packing/Filling Process.
- Mold Development: Develops and Manages Packaging Molds, working closely with Bottle and Cap manufacturers to ensure precision and quality and qualification of the components.
- Technology & Materials: Great understanding of EBM, ISBM, IM across many material groups that include HDPE, PETE, PP.
- Collaboration: Work with external parties, including suppliers and manufacturers, to source materials and develop packaging solutions.
- Specification: This individual will have a technical competency and be responsible for the creation and upkeep of packaging specifications, Pallet Patterns and Bill of Materials for Packaging.
- Line Trials: Conduct/organize Line Trial to validate New Packaging Componentry, Packing Lines, Changeparts for such items as Bottles, Caps, Pumps, PS Labels and Corrugated Cases.
- Project Management: Manage packaging projects from concept to implementation, ensuring timelines and budgets are met.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure packaging meets all regulatory and company standards.
- Cost Savings/Avoidance: Stay updated with industry trends and innovations in packaging technology and materials.
- Travel: Travel to various sites in North America to oversee packaging operations, collaborate with teams, and ensure project success.

- Plans and organizes the execution of laboratory programs, Line Trials, Mold Qualifications.

- Must demonstrate understanding of package development process and engineering principles.
- Provide technical support to Purchasing and Copacking.
- Support Line startups and 1st production runs at suppliers, Third Party Manufacturers to qualify Packaging Components/items.
- Manage the creation and upkeep of Bills of Materials and Packaging Component Specifications, Pallet Patterns in Suavé’s specification system.
- Attend on-site production startups and line trials to qualify new packaging componentry, first production, and troubleshoot issues.
- Maintain knowledge of external vendor capabilities.
Qualifications Include the Following:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in Rigid Packaging for CPG products.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Packaging Design and Mold Development and Packaging Processes (EBM/ISBM/SBM/IM).
- Project Management: Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Travel: Willingness to travel to various sites across North America as required.
- Software: MS Software (PPT, Excel, Word, Projects etc), CAPE, SpecRight.
