About the position
The Amazon Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) mission is dedicated to providing tools, resources, and environments that foster safe, efficient, and healthy behaviors among employees. The WHS Specialist (WHSS) plays a crucial role in this mission by serving as a designated representative for their assigned building. This position involves coordinating and implementing all aspects of the Amazon Global Program as directed by leadership. The WHSS is responsible for promoting a positive safety culture while ensuring compliance with Amazon's standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes conducting training sessions and coaching associates on observed work habits to enhance workplace safety. In addition to promoting safety culture, the WHSS is tasked with maintaining accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate reporting systems. This role supports management's efforts to ensure compliance with all corporate program expectations and applicable federal and state laws. The WHSS conducts risk assessments related to jobs performed, including Job Hazard Analysis and assessments for new equipment introductions. Furthermore, the WHSS is responsible for recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, which may include ergonomic considerations. Candidates must be willing to work any shift based on availability, including flexible shifts that may encompass days, nights, and weekends. For those without an adult First Aid, CPR, AED certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross, obtaining this certification within three weeks of the start date is mandatory.

Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems
- Support management efforts to ensure compliance with all corporate program expectations and applicable federal and state laws
- Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment introductions
- Recommend appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics
- Be available to work flexible shifts including days, nights and/or weekends
- Obtain First Aid, CPR, AED certification within 3 weeks of start date if not already certified
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910
- A minimum of 1 year in an environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field OR a bachelor's degree in an EHS-relevant background OR 6 months experience performing in a safety-related role within Amazon
- Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security and/or personal issues in the workplace
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in worker's compensation case management
- Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in a safety related field
- Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer focus skills
- Experience leading and managing a team
- Ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns
- Experience in emergency response and currently holds First Aid and CPR certificates.
