About the position
The Staff Nurse II PICU Float is a professional caregiver responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in critical care settings. This role involves assessing patient needs, formulating care plans, implementing care, and collaborating with healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will also participate in staff development and performance improvement activities, demonstrating a commitment to service orientation and effective communication.
Responsibilities
- Perform ongoing assessment and data collection focusing on various patient statuses.
- Formulate goal-directed plans of care based on nursing diagnoses and patient outcomes.
- Implement care consistently and skillfully, prioritizing patient needs.
- Identify and address patient/family learning needs.
- Establish effective working relationships with healthcare team members, patients, and families.
- Delegate and coordinate duties among healthcare team members appropriately.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided by the healthcare team.
- Utilize effective communication methods and skills in all interactions.
- Demonstrate knowledge of safety principles and perform efficiently in emergency situations.
- Participate in staff development activities and nursing research as requested.
- Document patient care and unit activities accurately and timely.

Requirements
- Three years of experience as a Staff Nurse with demonstrated competencies in assigned units.
- One year of recent experience in Pediatric Critical Care within the last three years.
- Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program with required clinical experience hours.
- Registered Nurse License in California.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the RN scope of practice and commitment to service orientation.
Nice-to-haves
- Chemotherapy and/or Procedural Sedation competency may be required.
- Cross-training to other Maternal Child Health/Family Centered Care areas with appropriate certifications.
