Full Job Description

Our Wellness Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting patients as they unlock their full potential. By emphasizing the benefits of regular physical activity, healthy eating habits, personal responsibility, and holistic self-care, this role helps create a healing-centered environment rooted in equity, inclusion, and respect for all identities.

We believe wellness is not one-size-fits-all. Our approach centers the lived experiences of our patients, especially those impacted by systemic inequities, and promotes culturally responsive care.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Design and implement inclusive fitness and wellness programs tailored to patients’ goals, identities, and physical capabilities
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary wellness team—including music therapist, dietician, yoga instructor, and medical staff—to ensure culturally competent and trauma-informed care
  • Schedule and facilitate off-site experiences across Charles County and Maryland that reflect diverse interests and backgrounds; occasional flexible scheduling required
  • Counsel patients individually and in groups on health and wellness activities including physical exercise, structured recreation, meditation, gardening, and other restorative practices
  • Teach fitness classes that promote strength, flexibility, cardiovascular health, and overall well-being, with attention to accessibility and body diversity
  • Plan and monitor health components such as nutrition and smoking cessation through an equity lens, recognizing barriers to wellness
  • Maintain daily communication with clinical staff regarding patient engagement, behavior, and emotional responses during wellness activities, with attention to power dynamics and cultural humility

Education and Experience

  • Pursuing certification as a Certified Personal Trainer or Group Fitness Instructor from an NCCA-accredited organization (e.g., ACSM, ACE, NASM, NSCA)
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required within first year
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery, especially those from marginalized communities, strongly preferred
  • Degree in physical education or related field preferred
  • Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in wellness or healthcare settings
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, intersectionality, and community-based healing practices is a plus

Our Values

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We strongly encourage applications from people of color, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, and those with lived experience of recovery or systemic oppression. We believe wellness must be accessible to all and that healing is most powerful when rooted in justice.
