Pay Info: $25 - $27/hour plus $4.93/hour (Health & Wellness Benefit)

At the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division in Patuxent River, MD, SA-TECH supports the Aircraft Instrumentation Division (AID) of the Prototyping, Experimentation, and Instrumentation (PIE) Department and we are currently looking to hire a General Technician I to support our expert resident machinist on a part-time basis, amounting to 20-25 hours a week. This position allows for the opportunity to learn and develop key CNC Machinist skills while on the job.


This technician will assist our Machinist in supporting engineers and machine shop personnel in the mechanical fabrication, mechanical assembly, as well as test and installation of prototype parts used in aircraft (and associated) systems.


Specific duties may include (although others may be added as needed):

  • Program and set up CNC mills and lathes
  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, and band saws
  • Operate conventional equipment such as bench grinders, hand tools, deburr equipment, etc.
  • Read and interpret blueprints for inspecting parts
  • Use measuring instruments such as micrometers, height gauges, calipers, gauge pins and thread gauges
  • Clean, sort and organize
  • Perform minor assembly work including helicoils, nut plates, nuts, bolts, etc.

Work Conditions:

  • Conditions will vary but most of the work will be performed in enclosed buildings.
  • Work will include sitting, standing, walking, lifting and reaching.
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs. unassisted and 50-100 lbs. assisted by others.
  • Working hours are 0530 to 1500 or 0600-1530 .
Requirements:

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with CNC machines, conventional machines, and CAD/CAM programs preferred.
  • Experience with GibbsCam preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of electronics, small circuits, and general tool use preferred.
  • Basic computer skills, focusing on MS Office, would be a plus in this role.
  • Ability to work well with people.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment.
  • U.S. Citizenship required and you must be able to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance prior to start date and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
  • All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation.
